goats

We raise ADGA registered Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats on just under one acre in Cumberland, Maine. Our herd name is Haymaker Farm, named after farming relatives several generations back. Although our current property size limits us to a very small herd, we believe very strongly in continuing to better the Nigerian Dwarf breed; we have been very careful in selecting the lines our does come from and to whom they are bred. We are breeding for conformation and milk production, and also for friendly personalities and beauty. We take a holistic approach to raising our goats, and believe that knowledge about the evolution, physiology and psychology of goats is critical to keeping them happy and healthy. While we generally feed organic feeds and use herbal remedies, we are not averse to using regular medicines and treatments when called for.

Our does:

Rosasharn YD Lily

Lily was our first goat, and we love her to pieces. A rather ugly duckling of a kid, with goofy, floppy ears and bulging eyes, Lily has matured into an elegant and feminine doe with large expressive eyes and a great personality. She comes from a line of excellent milkers - her dam is a 6*M. Lily kidded in May 2020 with beautiful twins by Denbow Acres Rambo *B, whose dam is the beautiful SGCH 2*M AR Denbow Acres Farm Trixie.

Denbow Acres Primrose

Primrose came to us as a three-day-old bottle baby in the middle of an especially horrible winter: she was exactly the balm our souls needed. She is maturing into a stunning little doe - we can’t wait to see her freshen next year!

FeatherNScale Lemon Zest

We feel so lucky to have one of FeatherNScale’s gorgeous goats in our barn. When I went to look at kids and choose one, Zesty came running over and jumped into my lap. Choice made! Zesty’s sire is the phenomenal SG+*B Old Mountain Farm Bold Elk, sire to the 2017 ADGA National Champion Senior Doe & National Best Udder Doe. He is also the sire to the 2018 ADGA National Reserve Senior Champion Doe and was chosen the 2018 ADGA National Premier Sire. Zesty inherited Bold Elk’s signature long body. Carissa and Wes at FeatherNScale love Zesty’s dams udder and teats, and we are so excited to see this little lovebug mature!

Old Mountain Farm Jezebel

The day I brought Jezebel home from Old Mountain Farm, I could not stop smiling ear-to-ear. Jezebel’s dam is one of my favorite does bred by Cheryle Moore-Smith, the elegant 3*M AR Old Mountain Farm Gazelle. I am partial to elegant, lean and feminine goats with large eyes, sculpted faces, and “wild” coloration: Jezebel embodies all of that. She is half-sister to our doe Zesty, sharing as a father SG+*B Old Mountain Farm Bold Elk, sire to the 2017 ADGA National Champion Senior Doe & National Best Udder Doe. He is also the sire to the 2018 ADGA National Reserve Senior Champion Doe and was chosen the 2018 ADGA National Premier Sire. Jezzie inherited Bold Elks long body and the gorgeous head and large, deer-like eyes passed down from her grandfather, Old Mountain Farm Stag. We’re so excited to watch her grow!

Haymaker Farm Marigold

Marigold is the first doe kid born on our farm. She is a beautiful chocolate/gray color and is a very intelligent, independent little girl. Mari’s sire, Denbow Acres Farm Rambo *B, has fabulous udders on his side, so we are very interested to see what Mari looks like when she freshens.
